I've been back to the basics this week: hemming dresses and putting a tuck here and there.  When I was going to school dances, the dresses were below the knee, had gathered puffy sleeves and a belt that tied in the back.   I usually had to let out the sleeves to fit my fat little arms.  Today I hemmed a beautiful black sheath dress with sheer bodice for a high schooler, my granddaughter. Above the knee she said...higher...no, little more... I said "why didn't you just buy a shirt, I wouldn't have to hem at all".  When I finished, I encouraged her to not bend over !

I am working on a medley of lap quilts and will have pictures next week.  My granddaughter is teaching me how to aim, shoot, retrieve.  I used to do that on the farm hunting rabbits, but she wouldn't believe it.

It seems like a long and wild December and now a time to reflect on what a wonderful holiday with time spent with family and friends.
I bought my grandson the perfect gift that always stays at his parents' house: the "popcorn" push toy.   He loves it - they want to sneak it back in my car.  ha
Sewing. . I'm gonna get back to that as soon as the carmel corn and the last of the powdered ice box cookies are gone.  I wonder if kids today even know what an "ice box" is ?  When I was growing up, we put everything in the ice box... More later sewers

Dashing through the dough…It’s Christmas after all.  I love Christmas…all the beautiful decorations and lights.  Although I have spent a fair share of my life collecting all these beautiful babbles, I find that the older I get, the fewer I put out. I do not admit to aging, but getting up and down on the ladder has its limits.
Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Clausssss. . . I stood in line for an hour and half last Saturday with my one and ½ year old grandson to sit on Santa’s lap. I shuffled along, one small shuffle step at a time, waiting for cheery old St.Nick. However my grandson ran, climbed, & played with the other little ones while my 17 year old granddaughter chaperoned these little tykes. Now I’m hurrying them over cause old grandma’s next in line for Santa. . .. You have never seen a child shriek, scramble, and try to make a run for it more than my sweet little grandson. . He wasn’t having any part of Santa.  Have some lovely memorable pictures of him trying to escape his mother’s arms and Santa’s sleigh.

Holiday sewing is memorable.  People you hardly know ask if you can make a quilt for their neighbor by Christmas, a lap quilt would be good they say, but a queen size would be nice for the bed. . .  Let me just put that down on the “not so much” list of to-do’s.  I do love making the stockings and embroidery towels – mostly because it’s achievable before the holiday.

I will share some photos of the cutest little Fairy quilt, designs by Embroidables.  They stitch out perfect every time.  (I don’t always do a sample like my teacher Jane says to do). This cute little toddler quilt in bright colors will surely be a favorite.   Have a great holiday. I’m working hard to finish that neighbors quilt now. Ho Ho Ho

Thanksgiving is over; Tums and anti-acids in place... Why do we eat like it's our last meal?  And why am I the first to spill gravy down my front?  We have a one year old who never misses his mouth...And why is it you are so full you're gonna burst, then go back and make a turkey sandwich on those homemade rolls...Thanksgiving is not a holiday we usually go all out decorating for, but a special day to be thankful for our family, health, and friends. I made my sister-in-law a quilt top for her new "dining table". The table was new and unscuffed so I made a Thanksgiving lap quilt to cover "Eat more Pie sign help up by a turkey". I think it brought a little humor as well as versatility. A quilt doesn't just have to be wrapped around the legs at TV time.
